AI video prompts: 100+ examples that work
A simple prompt formula, the mistakes that waste attempts, and more than 100 copy-ready prompts for text to video and image to video.
Good AI video prompts are less about clever words and more about clear pictures. An AI video generator can only show what you describe, so the prompts that work best name a subject, give it something to do, put it somewhere specific, light it and tell the camera how to move. This guide gives you a simple formula, the mistakes that waste the most attempts, and more than 100 ready-made prompts you can copy into AIVidGen and run today.
Every prompt below is written for a 5 to 10 second clip, uses a single camera move and avoids real or famous people. They work for text to video as they are, and most of them make good motion descriptions for image to video too.
The AI video prompt formula
Most strong prompts follow the same order. You do not need every part every time, but if a clip comes out vague, the missing part is usually one of these seven.
- Subject. Who or what the clip is about: an old fisherman, a red fox, a perfume bottle.
- Action. One clear thing that happens: pulls a net onto a boat, trots through snow, catches a sweep of light.
- Setting. Where it happens, with one or two concrete details: a wooden boat on a calm lake.
- Light. Time of day or light source: golden mist at dawn, neon reflections, a single desk lamp.
- Camera move. Exactly one: slow push in, orbit, aerial drone pull out, static.
- Style. The look: cinematic 35mm, Ghibli-style, claymation, product advert.
- Mood. One or two words that steer colour and pace: peaceful, tense, joyful.
Put together, that becomes: An old fisherman pulls a net onto a wooden boat at dawn, golden mist over a calm lake, slow push in on his weathered hands, cinematic 35mm look, peaceful. It is one sentence, it is easy to picture, and every phrase gives the model something to work with.
Weak prompt vs strong prompt
| Weak | Why it struggles | Stronger version |
|---|---|---|
| A beautiful sunset | No subject, no action, no camera | A sailing boat crosses a calm bay at sunset, orange light on the water, slow drone pull out, cinematic, peaceful |
| Cool cyberpunk city, epic, amazing, 8K, masterpiece | Hype words, nothing visual | A rain-soaked cyberpunk street at night, pink and teal signs flickering, FPV drone shot weaving between buildings |
| A dog runs, jumps, swims, then sleeps by the fire | Too many actions for 5 to 10 seconds | A golden retriever leaps into a lake, water spraying in slow motion, static low shot, bright summer light |
Common mistakes with AI video prompts
- Stacking camera moves. Orbit, then zoom, then crane up usually produces wobbly, confused motion. Choose one move per clip and cut between clips in an editor. Our camera moves guide explains what each one does.
- Writing a story instead of a shot. A clip is one moment. If you need a beginning, middle and end, write three prompts.
- Asking for text on screen. Signs, logos and captions generated inside a video often come out garbled. Add text later in your editor.
- Using vague praise. Words like stunning or masterpiece add little. Concrete nouns, light and textures add a lot.
- Describing feelings with no visuals. A sad scene is hard to film. Rain on a window, a cold cup of tea, slow push in is easy.
- Asking for real people. Do not prompt for celebrities, politicians or anyone you know. Describe an original character instead.
- Fighting the style. If you pick the Claymation style, do not also write photorealistic. Let the style setting and the prompt agree.

Start creatingCinematic AI video prompts
Cinematic prompts lean on light, shallow depth of field and slow, deliberate camera moves. They make strong openers and b-roll for longer videos.

Anime and Ghibli-style prompts
Choose the Anime or Ghibli style for these. Drawn styles in AIVidGen start from a first frame in that style and then animate it, so the look holds through the clip. For more ideas, see the Ghibli-style AI video guide and the AI anime video generator.

Cartoon and 3D prompts
Cartoon prompts work well with simple, physical comedy: a slip, a bounce, a surprise. Match each one to the 3D Cartoon, Claymation, Chibi, Paper cut, Low poly or Pixel art style. The AI cartoon video maker page has more examples.

People and lifestyle prompts
These describe original characters, not real people. Keep actions small and natural, such as reading, walking or laughing, because large, fast body movements are where people in AI video most often look wrong.
A young woman reads a book in a sunlit cafe corner, steam rising from her coffee, other customers blurred behind her, slow push in, lifestyle film look, relaxed.

A woman practises yoga on a wooden deck overlooking misty hills, slow crane up to reveal the valley, soft dawn light, wellness film style, serene.
Travel and places prompts
Travel clips make excellent b-roll. Drone moves and slow dollies give a sense of scale without needing a person in the frame.
Hot-air balloons rise over a valley of rock chimneys at sunrise, pastel sky, slow drone push forward between the balloons, travel film look, breathtaking.
A narrow cobbled street in an old Mediterranean town, white walls, blue doors and bougainvillea, slow dolly forward, bright summer light, relaxed holiday mood.

A desert campsite under the Milky Way, tents glowing softly from inside, slow pan across the night sky, cinematic travel look, quiet wonder.
Satisfying loop prompts
Satisfying clips rely on texture, slow motion and a locked-off camera. Static or very slow moves make it easier to trim the clip into a seamless loop in your editor.
Colourful kinetic sand is sliced by a knife into perfect layers, crumbs falling away, macro close-up, static camera, bright studio light, satisfying loop.
A drop of ink blooms in clear water, swirling into blue and gold clouds against a black background, static macro shot, slow motion, hypnotic.

Pastel paint is poured onto a canvas and spreads into glossy cells, macro top-down static shot, soft even light, relaxing loop.
Kids and education prompts
Bright colours, friendly characters and one clear process per clip work best for young viewers. Add labels and narration afterwards rather than asking for text in the video.
A cartoon water droplet travels from the sea into a cloud, falls as rain on a mountain and flows back to the sea, slow pan right, bright 3D cartoon, educational.
A friendly cartoon volcano rumbles and erupts with bright, bubbly lava on a sunny island, slow pull out, colourful kids' animation, fun and safe.

Business and ad prompts
Avoid asking for brand names or logos inside the clip. Generate clean footage, then add your logo, price and call to action in an editor.

A bright, empty modern living room with large windows and city views, sunlight on the wooden floor, slow dolly forward, clean architectural look, inviting.
Horror and mystery prompts
Suspense comes from what the viewer does not see. Slow push-ins, static frames and a single moving object are more unsettling than chaos. Try the Film noir or Vintage film styles.

A dark corridor in an old hospital, a door slowly creaking open at the far end, static camera, dim green light, horror film look, creeping dread.

A figure in a long coat walks under flickering street lamps in a foggy alley, seen from behind, slow dolly following, film noir, suspense.
Indian festival, street and monsoon prompts
Festivals, street food, temples and the monsoon are full of colour, steam, light and movement, which is exactly what AI video does well. Use specific names, such as diyas, kadhai, gopuram or dhak, rather than general words like Indian decorations.

Make these AI video prompts your own
The fastest way to improve is to change one part of a prompt at a time. Keep the subject and action, then try a different light, a different camera move or a different style, and compare the results side by side. When something works, save the exact wording in a notes file so you can reuse it.
- Swap the light to change the mood: dawn feels hopeful, blue hour feels quiet, neon feels restless.
- Swap the camera move to change the energy: static is calm, handheld is personal, FPV is thrilling.
- Keep a series consistent by repeating the same character description, style and light in every prompt.
- Download what you like. Videos stay in your library for 30 days and are then deleted automatically, so save the MP4s you want to keep.

Start creatingFrequently asked questions
A good AI video prompt describes one shot: a subject, one action, a specific setting, the light, a single camera move, a style and a mood. For example: an old fisherman pulls a net onto a wooden boat at dawn, golden mist over a calm lake, slow push in, cinematic, peaceful.
One or two clear sentences, roughly 15 to 35 words, is enough for most 5 to 10 second clips. AIVidGen accepts prompts up to 5,000 characters, so you can add more detail, but extra words should describe things you can see.
Usually the prompt asks for too much at once, such as several actions or several camera moves. Put the most important detail first, keep one action and one camera move, and change one thing at a time between attempts.
You can, but generated text inside video often comes out garbled. It is better to generate a clean clip and add titles, captions and logos in an editor such as CapCut or DaVinci Resolve.
Yes. With image to video the photo already sets the look, so use the motion and camera parts of a prompt, for example: steam rises from the cup, slow push in.
You should not prompt for celebrities, public figures or people you know. Describe an original character instead. All prompts in this library avoid real people.
